UltraInflamX is a medical food product from Metagenics that reportedly reduces inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract. It is said to help with conditions such as Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis, as well as other sources of inflammation.
The product comes in a bag and is considered a 30-day supply. It’s a powder that can be mixed into your beverage of choice, but I found that it works best when mixed into water. You definitely need a shaker bottle for this one. I ordered the mango flavor, and the taste is very subtle, which was a nice surprise. After using pre-workout powders for years, I was expecting more of an artificial taste. If you get a taste of the powder alone, it tastes like turmeric, which led me to the conclusion that it must have curcumin in it. And it does. Curcumin is a very effective anti-inflammatory, and I was introduced to it a few years ago in the form of Inflavanoid Intensive Care, also by Metagenics.
Why I decided to try this product:
Here’s a little background for you—back in 2011, I endured a 5-day stomach bug that I contracted from my toddlers. On the sixth day, I started to feel a burning sensation in my right lower abdomen. My first thought was that I had appendicitis. So, I went to Mass General’s Urgent Care Walk-In. The doctor I saw told me he thought it was appendicitis as well and sent me to the emergency room. I had blood tests done and a CT scan. The whole ordeal was 14 hours and they decided to admit me. They told me it was not appendicitis but a severe bacterial infection in the ileocecal valve, which is right next to the appendix!!! I was in the hospital for three days, where they had IV antibiotics and fluids continuously pumping into me.
When I was discharged, they had me on yet another round of antibiotics, and then within the next few weeks I had three more infections. Overall, I ended up having five rounds of antibiotics within a period of about three months. My gut has never been the same. I’ve tried all kinds of products and in general, nothing has helped much. I have flare-ups occasionally in the same area. I have a feeling there is scar tissue in the area where the infection was because it’s always in the same location and my doctor always assumes it is appendicitis. So on several occasions, I have had to go to the ER only to find out its inflammation. I have never had a definitive diagnosis, just have been told that it is inflammation and to avoid certain foods.
So What Happened:
When I started using the powder, I had been experiencing a burning sensation in my lower abdomen. This had been going on for three weeks. Within 3 days, my burning had subsided. After a couple of weeks, I had lost a few pounds. I was feeling less bloating and discomfort. I tested the product a couple of times by introducing dairy (one of my intolerances) to see if it would help in an active flare-up, only to discover that no flare-up would occur. Another benefit that took me by surprise was that it helped with menstrual symptoms. And a third benefit was that it helped with joint pain! I’m sure the benefits will continue to grow. This is just the first round!
I wanted to share my story in order to help others who might be experiencing these issues and thank you for taking the time to read through this. Inflammation is inflammation. It’s unpleasant, it affects function, and can cause a lot of pain. But if we reduce its effects, those symptoms will lessen or even go away! I highly, highly recommend this product. I cannot take ibuprofen or Aleve, so I am relying on natural products to help me with my symptoms and so far, UltraInflamX has been the quickest and most effective.
